I am a HUGE tennis fan. I love watching it.

Seeing as how there are a lot of Argentine men in the Top 40, I was wondering if tennis was really popular to watch there. I know football (soccer) is the most popular sport, but if I went to a sports bar, would it be easy to change one TV to a tennis match? Here in Nashville, TN, I would be lynched if I changed any TV to a tennis match if football, baseball, or basketball are on ... and that means always. Laughing

Anyone know if lots of people like to watch tennis there? It'd be cool if I could meet up with some tennis fans to play with and/or watch tennis on TV with.

So, did anyone who's in BsAs see people in bars watching the final between Nadal and Puerta? Were Argentines excited at all about a compatriot being in the final? Please tell me yes. Smile

Yep, Argentines are very proud of their sporting success, even their drug abusing tennis players, and tennis is popular here amongst the people who can afford to play. There are courts in Palermo all along the park from the golf course up til the race-course. All clay. The BsAs Tennis Club is there as well where they hold the ATP tournament in February.

No way dude, tennis sucks... Yeah, I suppose I have to admit you can watch a lot of tennis here. I did see that matches on in the bars and parillas just walking down the street. Also, there a lot of small tennis sporting goods stores in the barrios. You will be able to feed the addiction. It seems that most Argentines that have the time and money have some type of fitness hobby as there are lots of little gyms and sporting goods stores and many people use the parks for running and playing. You will certainly have better luck than I have at places to play basketball.

Thanks for the info, snielz & Matttheboy. Glad to hear that tennis matches can actually be shown in bars from time to time. I am not sure I'll be able to get cable in BsAs, and I was afraid I would miss the good matches if there were no sports bars that permitted tennis matches to be shown.

Tennis doesn't suck. Cool

I know, I know...Im sorry. I said it sucks only to pick at you. Kind of like me telling my brother that UNC sucks just because he went there even though they just won the national title. Practice up man.

Now that the French Open is over, I am going into tennis withdrawl. I don't have satelite TV with the Tennis Channel so I'm going to have to wait until Wimbledon ... aaaaaaaaaaarrrrgh! Sad

My boyfriend told me that he saw part of the Nadal vs. Coria match in Rome so that means that basic Argentine cable shows more tennis than basic American cable. Yeah! Cool

Hopefully, I will be there at the end of August ... and maybe I'll get to watch the US Open in a bar with other fans instead of all alone in my sad little apartment? Should I get my hopes up?

so just a heads up for those of you in Argentina ...

Wimbledon is on during the next two weeks. Can you all keep an eye out to see if people are actually interested in it? I know Argentines probably care most about the French Open cuz it's played on clay. Can you all let me know if bars are still showing tennis matches from time to time? I'd be sad if they only cared about the clay court season, but it would be understandable since Argentine players generally suck at Wimbledon.

So, anyone know if any Argentines are interested in Wimbledon? Nalbandian plays really well on grass.

ANOTHER Argentine tennis player, Guillermo Caas, just tested positive for doping. That's the fourth one! He's innocent until proven guilty, but it still does a lot of damage to the Argentine men's reputation.
