I am planning to go to Taichung, Taiwan at the end of August to look for a job and begin teaching. From what I have gathered, I need to try and get a 6 month visitor visa. In order to do this I need to have a ticket out of Taiwan within 6 months, right? Can this be changed or do I have to leave the country? How do most people do it? I will travel in China for a few weeks before I go to Taiwan. Can I get my visa there or do I need to get it in the states prior to leaving? I would really appreciate any info about this. Thanks so much! |

Taiwan and China have no formal diplomatic relations. You can do almost nothing relating to Taiwan in China.
The visa is a 60 day tourist visa. They have a 1-2 year validity period. You need to get the 60 day tourist visa. You can get it before you leave or you can get it in Hong Kong while you travel.
Get your visa before you leave. It will save you a lot of trouble. You will need to show a round trip ticket. Get a fully refundable ticket and there will be no problem. Simply change it after you get the visa.
Once you enter Taiwan you will have 60 days to find a job and start the residence process before you become illegal. Once your employer starts the residence process it is very easy to get a visa extention in country. |
