Yes, you no doubt know her. She was living with a Turkish sailor/ex sailor and was a bit odd. She kept herself to herself and did some strange things in the class. I was going out with a student at the time who was in her class and either changed classes or I took over her class, I cannot remember.

the schools which care about education and can keep their teachers happy never looses but the the word"success" for school owners is the quantity not the quality "we have 4 branches" "123 teachers are working for us" are things i heard alot .Doesnt matter how many branches you hae or how many students there are, if your teachers are not happy and students are complaining on websites ( i am not talking about this or that school so please do not get me wrong) there is no success for me .... i used to work for a school as a teacher and then a DOS which has more than 10 branches in Turkey and was crap but now working for a smaller school with 3 branches where the teachers and students are so happy and there is few complaint ...the success of the school is mostly related to the owner then to the principal or the teachers.

Whynotme: What you said makes a lot of sense. Do you know the owners of many of the private language schools? I know back in the mid 90s there was a language schools association which used to set rates and hold a language school fair every year but I suspect that that has little role left with the growth and changes in the industry.

even later than that 31. when I was at EC(2000ish) the owners of EC, IH and Interlang used to meet and fix the costs of courses and salaries, conditions, etc for teachers. Towards the end of my stay the director of Karya was also involved and it was her that basically got rid of 100% susidised housing at all the schools

I remember in 96 the lang schools association met 1 Sunday at Interlang in Bakirkoy. I heard that they did many years ago, fight and win a Milli Eigtim idea to ban or severely restrict foreign teachers working here.

What scum though. Improving the industry they are driving away students and decent teachers. Out of interest does your boss know the ET mob and what does he think of it all. Have you ever talked about it, does he think it is just business or is he jealous, apalled or what? Or is it sth you cannot ask. Same goes for whynotme.

My boss is a she and we aren't in the same market. She is Istanbul high society, finds the contracts at cocktail parties and i supply teachers or teach them myself.

Would it be inappropriate if I asked what was the average salary of one of your teachers if you take into account holidays, down time etc. Or do you employ part timers who work days in high schools and unis?

Hourly rates are so misleading. In my experience if you take into account summers, other holidays, cancellations, business trips and meetings a great hourly rate can average out badly. As I think it was mentioned hourly pay is really the extra cream but you need a lise or uni job to pay the bills.

only employ part timers on an hourly rate. all of them work legally somewhere else. Some do 4 hours a week others do 20 hours a week. I am the only full timer. If students cancel and don't give 24 hours notice teachers still get paid. Taxis are also paid. so no holiday paid, etc

So you don`t have any English Time teachers working on the side then.

I don`t blame you for not wanting ET ''teachers.'' And like you said if you had decent/any qualifications why would you be working for ET.

It has nothing to do with not wanting. I just don't know any and none have applied on spec.
