Volodiya's link includes the following page that lists all "foreign applicants" for positions (as of 31st May):
http://www.moe.go.th/icpmoe/Twolanguage_School/foreign_applicants.xls
The list includes their names, nationalities, e-mail addresses, degrees and subjects studied, subjects desired for teaching position, and location desired. I've never seen such a list available to the public! The only thing missing is a photograph. |
The funny thing is I know a lot of people on that list and they left Thailand over a year ago (some of them even longer) and that's towards the end of the list not the beginning. |

Kenkannif, will the wonders never cease?
Three possible explainations come quickly to mind. 1) The list is simply in need of revision; 2) The teachers applied through this system some time ago, but ended up taking other jobs, and their names should have been deleted; or, 3) Having left Thailand, they now wish to return and have started a new search for jobs, using this system.

No I don't think so. The names on there IMO were put there a year or so ago (i.e. it's outdated).
A very silly way of doing things IMO! |

^ They need an experienced, compassionate
Farang to help manage the program.
A guy like me, for example.
I've told them I'm available. |

Well, maybe there are schools that are still consulting that list. Some of the applicants might be contacted that way and get an offer.
Stranger things have happened! |

Turns out, he may be right!
Remember Kenkannif's thought that the list of job applicants on the M.O.E. website is way out of date? Well, in an effort to get to the bottom of it, I've sent emails to around 15 of the people on the list. I've had one reply already, a lady who said she applied two years ago.
Apparently she took another job but didn't request that her name be removed from the list. She says she's been contacted by a couple of schools in Thailand since applying through the website.
So, teachers out there, do not be discouraged from applying by the large number of names on the list- it's just not current, at all, probably; get your name on the list: anyone following the list will notice if a new name appears; and, to improve your odds, contact the schools directly, if you can, rather than waiting for a contact from them. |

^ I'm always right
You reckon if you contacted them they'd take the name off? I doubt it as it looks good having loads of 'farangs' on there....err even though half of them ain't even in Thailand anymore! |

I continue to get a few responses to my emails from people who have applied for jobs through the M.O.E. website.
Of the ones who have replied to me, so far, the four of them 1) have jobs elsewhere, 2) are still interested in working in Thailand sometime, and 3) have been contacted by one or more schools in Thailand, as a result of their posting an application. The length of time since they posted applications to the website, to the present, varied from 12 to 24 months. |

You could have took my word for it
Do they mind having their e-mail addresses there for all the world to see? |

About 50% of the people I wrote, from the list of applicants on the M.O.E. website, have replied to my email.
One asked what I wanted to do with the information I was gathering (I suppose he thought I was a "headhunter"). Here's what I told him.
______________
Thanks, Chris, for the detailed reply. I had recently
been referred to the M.O.E. website, where they publish
contact information for the teachers who have applied
for jobs in Thailand. The M.O.E. apparently does not get
involved in the hiring effort, but leaves it up to the
schools to peruse the list and contact the applicants;
hence, those contacts you had.
They also publish a list of schools that are looking
for teachers. I would think it could speed up the
process for a teacher to contact the school he was
interested in himself, directly, perhaps by phone or
in person.
My inquires to people like yourself were aimed at
discovering whether this list of teachers in the
website was out of date, or not. It seemed to be a
long list, and I was afraid it would discourage people
from applying. What I found was that it is out of date
and that most of the people listed there are working
and unavailable, making the list effectively much
shorter than it seems. |

^ Problem is how out of date is the list of schools? There's also not that many on there really. |

[Excerpts, from Bangkok Post, June 27, 2005 edition.]
______________________________
Schools to have right to set own fees
Encouraged to hire foreign teachers
SIRIKUL BUNNAG
Private schools will be able to set their own tuition fees and bring in foreign teachers and foreign teaching materials under a radical revamp of regulations by the Education Ministry.
Deputy Education Minister Rung Kaewdaeng said the sweeping changes had the backing of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Three joint committees of the Education Council and the Private Education Promotion Office would draw up the plan.
* * * * *
The Education Ministry would also allow all private schools to employ an unlimited number of foreign teachers in four subjects: mathematics, science, English and computer science.
The government would facilitate applications for visas and work permits, especially for the teachers.
The prime minister thought it was wrong that illegal immigrants could sneak through the border and be beggars here but difficult for foreign experts, who would bring benefits to the country, to get visas. "This will be a radical change in private education. We have allowed only international and bilingual schools to import teachers. From now on the government will liberalise this...,'' the deputy minister said.

I would think this has the potential of creating a number of additional, better paid positions for foreign teachers. Comments? |
