Hello everyone,

I just wanted to make a post on here, warning people that if they visit my site within the next few days they might not see a whole lot. Ezboards, which hosts my messageboard and thus virtually all the information on my site, was hacked the other day, and it looks like virtually all the information on the site was wiped. I'll probably be shutting the site down for awhile as I try to figure out what the heck to do with it. Thanks to everyone who's visited and posted information about their schools this past year. Hopefully we can get them back sometime soon, and the site can continue to serve as an important resource for teachers coming to China. Thanks for your time.

Sorry about that Nate and wish your website a speedy recovery!

I wonder which blacklisted school orchestrated the hacking and the subsequent loss of data...

Could that be a warning to Dave's, too? I hope Dave's has back-ups etc...

The problem was that ezboard as a whole, not just my site, was hacked. Thousands, if not millions, of sites have lost data as a result of this. I'd imagine the problem wouldn't be the same on Dave's because they host their own website and are able to make backups of it on their own. ezboards is remotely hosted, and that's probably why I had this problem.

My other site uses proboards, and so the information is still there. However, I'm looking to move both sites completely onto their own webspace so I can avoid this kind of thing in the future.

The paranoid in me says "they" would hit them all just to make it look as if the hit wasn't on you

And I'm back!

After about a 3 week hiatus, www.ChinaSchoolReview.com is again up and functioning. In fact, it's better than ever, with a totally reworked reviews system that's a lot more robust than what I was using before. It's also back-upable, meaning I hopefully won't have to deal with that same crap again that sunk the site in the first place.

That said, much of the information lost in the original attack appears to be
back. So for some of you, resubmitting your review, (assuming you submitted one in the first place), will be a simple cut and past job. Some were lost irreversibly, though, and for that I am sorry. You can check for your review on the old message board over at:

http://p092.ezboard.com/bteachingenglishinchina

In about a week and a half or so, I'm going to start moving them over to the new site, instead of waiting for the original authors to do so. The reason for that is that I prefer it if you post yourself, as it gives it a more personal feel, and keeps me from having to explain that it's not MY school that was posted there, but someone elses.

In the interest of getting the most important aspect of the site, (the reviews), up and running as quickly as possible, there are still a few objects, most notably School Information Requests, the forums, and the
Job Postings Sections, which are still hosted on the old message boards. This is on a strictly temporary basis, until something better can be found. Still, I wanted the option to be there. However, I've disabled posting in the School Review forums as well as the School Archives, because I want to encourage people to get posting over on the new site.

The wait here has been a little longer than I anticipated. Nevertheless, I think in the end everyone is going to appreciate the changes made, and we're going to have a better site because of it. Thank you all for your patience and support. I hope you all like the new site. Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions to make.

Sincerely,
Nathan Mittelstaedt

How is Nate getting free advertising? He is not offering a product nor a service. He doesn't charge for the site, and in fact he has spent his own time and money developing it as a source of free information relevant to the users of this forum.

From my understanding of your site Keath, you are a recruiter. As such you are a commerical enterprise that makes money from people who may be the users of this forum.

Isn't the answer to your question rather obvious.

Agreed. Nate spends his time plugging away at a site to offer teachers a FREE resource. Perhaps in the future he'll sell ads on his site, but he'll deserve the $$ for his time.

Thanks for the hard work Nate!
