I lifted this from a thread in the Newbie Forum (apologies to M.K.)

Overall, Newbie Forum = good.
I feel more comfortable posting here than anywhere else, that's for sure. There seems to be more patience for my naive little posts. My only frustration is that the questions I really want to ask are specific to my intended teaching destination (Costa Rica), and nobody posts much in the Costa Rica forum, or the General Latin American Forum either. I'm hoping this is due to the fact that everyone in Costa Rica is insanely happy with their teaching jobs, and they are making so much money that every minute of their free time is packed with exciting travels and other adventures. |
I've also been wondering why this forum doesn't get much action. Is it because work in Costa Rica is so good there's no need to discuss issues? Is it because life is so full there's no time for the internet? Or maybe it's because the majority of folks here would be happier to read than post (I know that's true for me).
So, who's out there? Does anyone have any questions, suggestions, stories they'd like to share? |

I've been an on and off lurker for some time, mainly because I was trying to decide if this was the life for me.
I've decided to take the plunge, so to speak - and will be moving to Costa Rica in August. I recently had a quick trip down to the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area and verified the presence and physical location of a certificate school, and that was enough for me.
As such, hopefully I can be a more frequent poster. And maybe we can get a nice group of regs in here to keep the forum lively...

for me, I just get tired of seeing the same questions over and over again. after you've been down here awhile, you don't feel like answering questions about the cost of living and malaria pills that you've already answered a dozen different times. and yeah, it's a pretty small place, and it seems like either you get settled and you don't need much advice, or it's too much for you so you leave. and within about 3 months of living here you've met the entire expat community (or enough of it) so you don't really use the internet for networking that much. |
