|
|
I married a Polish lady about six years ago, and I am currently living in Texas. I recently retired from a job that pays $1,200 a month retirement pay and have been unable to find a job I want that pays decent (for the US pay scale). My wife is now trying to talk me into going back to Poland, using cost of living as a selling point.
She is a certified Polish music teacher on Piano and Flute and she wants to return to her hometown near Rzeszow. She tells me I will be able to go back and teach ESL to students outside of a formal school. My qualifications are minimal, other than an Associate's degree in Information Technology.
Based on the experience of the people on this forum, how far would $1,200 a month go in normal living costs? And what would be required to pick up students for ESL classes? Certifications? Just wing it?
Also are there any other jobs for english speaking persons, that I might be able to find? Do American/British/Canadian companies setting up factories/stores in Poland need English speaking personnel?
And does anyone know about these new NATO military field training sites in Poland? Do they need English speaking people?
Thanks for any help. |

If you had a BA, you would be in like Flint. In Poland B, 1200 US + what you could make teaching would do you well. If you only had a BA! |

Hello:
Well, $1200 a month in some small town near Rzezow should be enough for both of you to live on...anything else should be gravy...of course, it depends on lifestyle. If she gets a regular teaching job, you guys are cool and any money you make tutoring on the side is gravy.
That being said, winters in Poland are a little different than in Texas as once there, you will be there forever as your wife will never want to leave (I would think anyway). So you better not go unless you are certain that is what you want to do forever. Money, however, will be the least of your problems. |
