Criminal record check: in this country (Panama), where work permits are becoming increasingly necessary, the first step is the the background check. This week, a fellow teacher had to fly back to Toronto to get his. It's almost impossible to get a backround check in the country where you want to work. Another teacher is getting the runaround here by the Canadian embassy and Interpol. He too may have to fly back to Canada.
In short; get your background check before you leave Canada or the USA because otherwise you may get screwed.
Good luck!

Cdaniels:

Nonsense. Both Aramas and I have indicated on this forum that Chazz is another Paulie clone. Aramas indicated that he/she ignores Chazz because he is a Paulie clone.

Been reading long?

Laughing

I'm afraid I may have caused some confusion by misinterpreting (and then challenging) Aramas' comment about identities (moonraven, Chazz, and Paulie.) Embarassed

Moonraven has been accused of several things on these forums, but I don't think she's ever been accused of posting using various names. She's always moonraven.

Then there's Paulie. He was Paulie, an EFL teacher in Central America, and he was Antaraaa, who lived in Florida, just to name a couple of his "personalities." Paulie could very well be Chazz from Canada, too, I suppose.

My apologies for any confusion I may have caused.

How's this for a contribution - a little bit of truth:

I am a young (21), relatively inexperienced Canadian traveller. I live in a small town in Ontario where little ever happens but for the seasons changing (which is beautiful). I like reading, hitchhiking, taking enlightenment for granted, futbol, Church, cartoons, playwriting, art of any nature (but for the most pretentious of any genre or style), people who make me laugh, Buddhism, Bohemians and hip-hop. I don't like the American Political climate/foreign policy, litterers, bugbites, crappy domestic beer, 99% of romantic comedies, Nihilism, Fatalism, most of the people botching my religion..."Christians", chat forums and anyone with no sense of humour. ALL TRUTH - Sorry it sounds like a personals ad...
I signed onto your precious forum because I figured I would find a whole lotta people who were either in my shoes, or far wiser and willing to help folk in my shoes. Surely, you, Moonraven, fall into the latter category, as you so love to brag about. Unfortunately, I also found a chat-forum "cult of cool" ...those chat-nerds/snobs who spend far to much time scrutinizing, criticizing and ranting rather than telling me anything remotely of interest to my first big journey.
It is greatly vexing how every time I post it ends up as a couple of chat-nerds bickering over something only vaguely related to my ignorant posts...Moonraven - do you post a reply to every inquiry just to see your name in that pretty green font on the net? Don't worry, you are famous now and better than all of us ignorant gringos stuck in Canada waiting to follow in your footsteps.
I do not care enough for posting to develope an alter ego. My own ego is hard enough to handle as it is. Why the hell would I do that -seriously - I have said so many dumb things as Chazz that saying more dumb things as Paulie would be redundant.
What vexes even more is this - I am the kind of jack@$$ easilly sucked into an arguement to the point where I am often not thinking of what I am saying. You chat-nerds just like to pick fights, like insecure kids on the schoolyard.
Paulie, whoever you are - I am sorry if I stole your thunder. I am sure they'll be back to bothering you sometime soon.
Perhaps what burns me the most is that if any of you were to actually sit down for a beer or a latte or a tea or a glass of freaking water with me we would probably get along famously...this chat crap has got to be the most ridiculous way to develope an idea of someone's personality on the planet. I cannot believe people romance online. Puke.
So adieu...farewell...if I come up with any other important questions I will either read the answers in my books (which are not capable of being @$$holes) or I will quiet my mind and find out for myself, the hard way. I have lung surgery tomorrow and leave in August and so will definetly be far to busy to fish for nice decent folks on this forum.

'Nuff said...in fact, I have said well more than enough, as have any of the afformentioned snobby nerd types. I will at least have the decency to remove myself from the forum for a while. Thanks to anyone who has wished me well and blessed me with good info (Justin T, Pirate, etc.)...Perhaps I will write from Honduras, perhaps I will have have more interesting things to do. I pray that the latter is true.

Wow guys,
You really gave it to him hard. I dont really read this forum so I didnt see all the stuff the convinced you he was Paulie but give him a break. What if he wasnt? The thing is, we dont really know one another here so why pretend like we do? I just dont get it. It for many of the same reasons that I prefer to stay away from the General LA forum... But for now, someone please "let me have it". As my spanish isnt fluent, I havent been able to argue with anyone for six weeks now and am itching for a meaningless cyber-fight in english. Or dont, I suppose that would be better.

I've been accused of being someone else before, too. It's all so strange. I was under the impression that this website recorded your IP address so once you got banned you couldn't return, at least not if you're using the same computer.

If you're dying to argue, we can have a fight, Snielz. How about Top 10 reasons tennis is better than basketball? LOL Wink Very Happy

I'll start with one:

Tennis players won't stampede the audience and beat you within an inch of your life.

Jonny,
Hah. That has only happened once. I mean, this isnt futbol we are talking about here. What about the time the person stabbed Monica Seles?

What about the fact that you have to be rich to play tennis. Okay, that is an exaggeration...but there is no denying it is a country club sport. Even in Argentina.

On the other hand, I turned my ankle badly yesterday and couldnt go to a job interview today, so I am tending to agree with you for the most part.

Poor Monica! Her stabbing was tennis's darkest day. I get depressed every time I think about it.

Tennis is definitely more posh than basketball, but it's not just a rich man's sport. I played tennis growing up b/c there was a tennis court in our apartment complex. We were pretty poor. The Williams sisters are from Compton. I think the sport is getting less and less country club, but you're right, it will never have the street cred that basketball enjoys.

Reason #2 why tennis is better than basketball:

No half time shows.

Reason #3 why tennis is better than basketball: Hotness

Chazz:

You may not be Paulie, but your 100% egocentric focus is virtually identical to his, as well as your mean-spiritedness and your belief that joining a forum means that everybody else OWES you something interesting for your "first big journey".

Reality check: You are not the center of the universe, and we do not OWE you anything. If you really want advice, why not ask in such a way that someone would be inclined to give it to you?

I predict a rocky road ahead for you in Honduras. Or in anyplace else, for that matter. That chip on your shoulder will not get any lighter....

Reason #4

No tennis players are compelled to release rap albums.

Moonraven, give it a rest.

Jonny, ok, those are good reasons. I like the idea of a halftime but at both the college and pro level the shows are usually really stupid.

As for hotness, I think we each have personal tastes but anytime you have relatively young, super-fit people, they are going to be attractive. I have to agree and give tennis the slight edge only because basketball demands that the people are taller, and once you get a guy past 6-7 or a guy past 6 feet (generalizing obviously), they tend to lose the qualities of proportion and symmetry so key to attractiveness.

I heard Ron Artests album was pretty good.

Reason #2 for b-ball: The fans follow a team, not an individual.

Reason #3: The rivalries that transcend individuals

Reason #4: Ben Wallaces afro.

One of the things that I love about tennis is that it's not a team sport. When the tennis player is on the court, he has no coach, no substitutions, no teammates to pick up his slack (not counting doubles, of course), etc. It's just him/her all alone on the stage. If he falls apart, the whole crowd watches. No coach can pull him to the bench to regroup. The wins are more glorious and the defeats are more humiliating because you have no one to credit but yourself. That aspect I find riveting.

As for sexy athletes, guys like me get to see hotness on the tennis court and the basketball court. But I was thinking more for guys like you ... do you get to see hotness on the basketball court? Lots of guys tell me they can't even watch women's basketball.

Reason #5

Can you name the last tennis player to get arrested for ... anything? What's the last calendar year where no NBA player was on trial for some felony?

Reason #6

To earn money, tennis players actually have to win. (Endorsements excluded)

Reason #7

Tennis mixes it up by playing on clay courts, grass courts, & hard courts.

Reason #8

Tennis audiences applaud beautiful shots (winners) from either player. Do basketball fans cheer or clap when the away team makes a breath-takingly beautiful shot?

Reason #9

Andre Agassi's the most generous athlete in America when it comes to charity.

(This week's Sports Illustrated features a list of the wealthiest athletes and includes a sidebar on the most philanthropic. Andre Agassi not only tops the list with charity contributions, exceeding $11 million, but gives more than twice as much as the next athlete, Lance Armstrong. For perspective, Tiger Woods, the wealthiest on the planet, contributes $1.5 million.)

Reason #10

Tennis fans don't riot in the streets after championship matches. Wink

Reason #11

No tennis player stared in the movie "Kazaam!" LOL haha Laughing

P.S. I am joking with most of this, Snielz! Very Happy Please remember I am just arguing with you cuz you wanted it! Hehe Very Happy We're still (cyber) friends, right? Very Happy Truth is, I'll take basketball over boring as heck baseball or American football any day.

What can I say? Youve got me.

Youre right about women basketball players...most of them I dont find attractive. This may have something to do with the fact I am socialized to see independence and toughness as unattractive in women (or the fact that they could all kill me at basketball and then beat me up and take my lunch money) but I would rather watch/marry Ms. Sharapova any day.

Its true that tennis players have to win, but they dont have to win the whole tournament. This is not unlike an NBA team winning thirty games but not making the playoffs...

As for NBA players committing felonies, I think it adds to the humanity of it. Just look at the backgrounds of the players. Most of the tennis players come from the country club and even if they did commit a crime, daddy could pay for a lawyer to get them out of it (or they could if they had made it by then). NBA players are a different story. Plus, having the felonies helps me to identify with them, ehhh....

As for riots, who doesnt like a good riot. It shows some vitality in the local populace, I think. There are things more important than having nice park benchs and store windows...like burning those things. (By the way, I went to the River Plate match last Wed. people were talking about. There was what I would call a nice mini-riot there complete with beatings, gunshots and teargas. Lots of fun. Well have to go when you get here.)

I like Andre Agassi. BUT he and his philanthropy have to be counteracted by Ben Wallace and his afro.

Really, I think the only edge you have is Maria, and all the other lean, lithe bodies running around on those courts of yours. Nonetheless, it is still an edge. You win. Thanks for the fight.
