Does anyone know if this allowance is stoped or continues after a NET has had a prolonged period of residence in HK. I have been told that it stops at some point. Anyone have any information on this? |

The literature clearly states that the special allowance is only payable to those whose 'normal place of residence' is outside of HK. Thus, the only people who are not eligible are permanent residents.
I know people who have received the allowance since the start of the various schemes and do not apply for permanent residence for this reason alone. I also know others who for other reasons it suited to take permanent residence and so forsook the allowance. |

that's what I heard too - that once you took out permanent residency that you were no long eligible for the allowance. However, I have since been informed that this is not necessarily the case. Some NETS who have been here 7 years are taking out permanent residency and they can still prove their "normal" place of abode is overseas - and still get the allowance. I shall enquire further. |
