I'll be in Barcelona in September and wanted to know if anyone on this forum is there already.
I wanted to know how well you like living there and what it's like to socialize. Do you meet people through school? On your own? Or do you feel that language makes it hard to meet people (I don't speak Catalan).
Thanks |

There are so many foreign guiris in Barcelona that you can spend years there without speaking Spanish, yet alone Catalan. I know several people who did this. you will find less interest in you as a foreigner than in other places because of this. It depends where you go out as well, if you stay away from the Ramblas/old town area you will meet local people who contrary to what some say are warm and friendly (well some of them). But if you make an effort to learn the language you will have a huge advantage.
As for work, there are so many people willing to work for peanuts that you will find it difficult to save any money. The rents have skyrocketed the last few years too.
Still, the nightlife is among the best in the world |

Try the English Language magazine 'Metropolitan' which contains contact details for bars, sport, live music and other ex- pat activities. It should be available online via:

Barcelona Connect Magazine, http://www.barcelonaconnect.com, is another free English language monthly. There is also LoQuo, http://www.loquo.com/, which is Spain's multi-lingual community site. Besides a site for BCN, LoQuo has sites for Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla, Tenerife, Alicante, Malaga, Granada, Oviedo-Gijon, Mallorca and Zaragoza.
Good luck,
