I would like to know what are the procedures when applying an E 2 visa for Korea . I know that they need a BA for application. My concerns are how far would they check to see if the degree is authentic. Would they actually call to the university? I have heard stories and loopholes. Is this true?

Lost and cofused Question [/b]

One wonders why this post is not on the Korea Board.Oh well. One also wonders if your degree is authentic or if you are asking if it is possible to pull a fast one.
Most of the time(probably about 99.9 per cent of the time),they will not call the university to check on the authenticity of the degree.Unless of course, they have reason to expect it is bogus.

Dear nicentidy:

I seldom disagree with my respected colleague bnix, but I have some first-hand info for you that differs substantially from bnix's.

Several years ago during a brief family visit to the USA, I decided to accept a teaching position in Chonju, South Korea. At that time, the consulate officer [in Dallas or Houston, I can't remember] did call the university to verify my diploma ... and I assure you that my diploma was authentic.

In fact, per request of the consulate, I even had a sealed transcript sent directly from the university to the consulate, and despite that very official-looking document which was postmarked from the university itself, they still called on the telephone to verify that I had indeed graduated.

Now I can't speak for every consulate in every city of the world, but apparently there are far too many people with fake degrees in Korea these days, and the consulates are getting wise to it.

If your degree is questionable, be warned. Wink

Regards,
keNt

I stand corrected.Maybe I should have stated they did not use to check much. But if there are a lot of fake degrees floating around(I do not doubt that AT ALL),then I am sure Kent is correct.
By the way,I also taught two years in Chonju,South Korea.Very nice city,in my opinion.

I second bnix's original post. Check the Korean Job board. Also...

I swore I wouldn't get into being gossipy, but the tone of your first post piqued my curiosity:

Why worry about employers checking up on your degree, if you're legitimately qualified?

Tidy--You sign most applications under penalty of perjury. You may not only lose a job, but you may find yourself in a bit of hot water.
