In Hong Kong a year or 2 back we had 3 advertising slogans all unleashed on the public about the same time.
I'm Lovin it - McDonalds
Live it Love it - Hong Kong govt to promote HK after SARS
Live it Learn it - British Council to promote English classes |

The slogan draws from ghetto English and is/was part of McDonalds trying to tap the hip hop / urban market.
The reason we usually use " hate, like, love, need, prefer, want, wish" in simple present is because aything you " hate, like, love, need, prefer, want, wish" is not likely to change its status any time soon, and so when you use these words you're usually stating a permanent condition, which is fully in the realm of simple present. In instances where the condition might change we could plausibly use the -ing form (pres continuous) which would indicate that we won't be whatevering soon. Or, in the case of the McDonalds sloagan, it inidcates a newfound love rather than a habitual one, though using the langauge this way isn't a part of the mainstream (yet). |
