beer, bitter, ale, stout lager, they all go down the same way. But real ale is best at room temperature, not cold. cold is bad

Naw, the avalability of beer will never influence the teaching market. Just look at South Korea. Teachers there are thrilled to get Heineken for christ's sake. Never heard of an ale in Korea.

And since when is Guiness classified as an "ale". Nor is ale merely "cold beer". You guys keep insulting the love of my life like that and the gloves are gonna come off ...

Keep the gloves on Merlin. I dont see who suggested Guiness was an ale. Guiness is also the love of my life along with bacon sarnies. Now that's a breakfast.
which do you prefer normal Guiness or ice cold guiness

Sheffield born and bred. Ale was just the generic term for any beer.

Ice is for the beer you opened the night before but can't stand to see thrown out. Or maybe if someone peed in it I'd need it ice cold. Or fake beer with rice as the main ingredient also needs ice.

But any decent beer, ale or stout should go down just fine at the temperature of the cellar it was stored in - or slightly warmer. Plus, since it's a cold weather meal it'd be like eating ice cream in a blizzard if it was served cold. I don't drink it that much, though. It's one of those luxuries for indulging in only when you can get a "good one". Every once in a while an "Irish Pub" opens up somewhere but more often than not its a disappointment. Sad
