Hi everyone,
Ok, I know that Spain doesn't care about American Thanksgiving but it is the most important holiday in my family, even above Christmas. I'm wondering if I'm going to have any trouble getting that week off, especially since I'll be a first time teacher, fresh out-the-box, so to speak.
What is the skinny on vacation time, anyway. I plan on working a lot and will be very commited to my job but T-day, as I said, is a must. Any advice from the field?
Thanks in advance.

Spain is very aware of Thanksgiving at least where Ive been teaching and just about all of my Spanish friends know of it. They call it "Dia de Gracia." Spanish people as a whole are family oriented and they like spending time with their family so you wanting some time off for Thanksgiving shouldnt be a problem. There are lots of Thanksgiving parties organized by Americans who have made Spain their homes. Youre bound to find one. Youll also find that your classmates will have arranged something special for Thanksgiving and somehow it just ends up to be real special Thanksgiving Day party away from home. Cant guarantee what the stuffing will be like, but at least we try to make it as authentic as possible. Hope you enjoy Madrid like the rest of us.

Thanks for the info, it eases my mind. I'll be asking for that week off so I can fly home and back. Sounds like they appreciate the importance of family. I think I'll be happy in my new surroundings.
Can't wait! leave tomorrow!
