Hey, been reading through the posts in this forum for a while, and finally joined up. To be honest, I think this forum was a deciding factor on my decision to try Turkey after the summer.

Someone on one of the threads described living in Turkey, (or Istanbul at least) as having your cake and eating it, and then having another piece handed to you. I loved that.

I am in Taiwan. As a female here, it's like sitting at a table and watching everyone else eat cake, but where's my cake? I don't have any cake!!! Crying or Very sad

Anyway, if you are getting a reputation, I think it's great....keep it comin'!

I'll bring the moogi cha.

Ew! Not moogi cha! But chocolate-covered moogi is good...

I agree that Turkey seems to be where the party is. Whether the cake there will make up for the loss of green tea-flavoured chocolate is yet to be discovered, though...

31 - If you want to swap bucket shop, (here they call them "bushiban") nightmare stories...we could go on for hours. But your just gonna have to wait for my masterpiece to hit the theatres..."BUSHIBAN - THE MOVIE". I can't think up people freakier than some of my ex-coworkers.

Doesn't sound like what goes on in Istanbul is much different than here....

I would like to bring out a regular fanzine about TEFL in Ist roughly modelled on one that was distributed round the lang schools in the early - mid 90s. It would contain all the goss from the bucket shops and be free and would not exploit anyone. No paid advertising and non-profit. It would have regular features such as True Crime stories and would name and shame the bucket shops. Could have cartoons and newbie advice. Could have a regular Long termer interview such as old Bob from Kadikoy one week and dmb another week. Molly would definitely be in there.

But I am too apathetic and lazy and so this is just a pipe dream like all those other teflers who sit in bars night after night and say they are going to:

write a coursebook
start their own school
stop drinking
do a PGCE
write a novel

This forum has got some life - unlike others. Far more interesting posters; far more up-to-date relevent, useful information. ET bashing aside, it's a good place.

Would've liked to have been a fly on the wall at that Taksim bar July 1st. Too bad we hadn't gotten one of the posters to strap a webcam to his head... Any takers?
