There is a Turkish home remedy involving cups, a naked back, cotton and flames intended to relieve stress. Does anyone know exactly how to do this? I've had it done to me before and it seemed to work, but lacking eyes on the back of my head, I never saw the process. I would like to try it, but need advice on how to do it without causing injury. |

it is called "kupa ekmek" you need speacial cups for that and there must be someone who knows how to do it and did it before..... if you are in Turkey I will ask my mom to send you my mother in law's cups (if they are still at home) |

Thanks whynotme. I guess the plastic dixie cups I was going to use wasn't such a hot idea!
Not in Turkey...yet! If you still feel like shipping your family off to Canada - I'd be more than willing to take them in! As long as they don't mind doing laundry. |

i know it as "bardak cekmek".
actually it is an ancient chinese remedy called cupping. take a look:

sandyhoney2, you don't really need whynotme's relatives for this (or your laundry) - if you know any chinese people i'm sure they'd know of someone who's done in before. |

no wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
it is 100 % Turkish .
The Chinese learnt it from my mother's mother's grand grand grand mother and the person who "ceks the kupa" must be related to whynotme family. Also Chinese cups are so small for sandy i think. |

In the Gulf many Arabs have cupping done by a doctor or family member and it means bloodletting done from the back of the neck preferably at certain times of the month that have religous significance. It is supposed to cure many ailments such as lethargy caused by bad blood. I have never heard of Turks doing this but I have seen leeches for sale at street markets. |

I tend to rant on to students about how the Scots are nation of great inventors. We invented the tv, telephone, tyre, raincoat, penicillin, falan. Students always tell me that some Turk invented them first and the idea was stolen. |
