Joesy -
Now I am hurt. I thought your add milk to cereal bowl was something you coined just for me. But now I find out that you are double timing me. Terrible!
Joesy, I may or may not miss you. |

"I highly suggest that you get a TEFL Cert, they come in handy."
Tut, tut, Naturegirl. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, nay, STRONGLY SUGGEST, that you collocate with care. |

Cyna et. al.,
Don't listen to some of the people posting here. The only way they can boost their Slurpee-selling egos is by knocking those who are brighter than they were (or still are, possibly) when they first started out.
All this stuff about real teachers is b.s. |
Joe,
Sounds like you are trying to justify your own lack of qualifications.
Like: "Hey, I travelled to Asia with only a couple years of college, student loans and a dream and you can do it too!" |
Must have hit you hard and deep to inspire such an eloquent response, Ted.
Now you see, Cyna, what you are really up against. What we have here is a prime example of someone who is fighting like heck to discourage you from doing what he did years ago just because he's afraid you'll take his place in the food chain and force him back to selling Slurpees in his hometown at $4.75 an hour (and that's $4.75 Canadian, no less). |

Elsie,
You are right, bud. Thank you for correcting me. I apologize.
I have since withdrawn that comment.
Buddy, I may miss you, too, but don't put money on it. |

Oh Joe,
I've done my research.
It's really kind of you to encourage others to follow your route: teach and try like hell to catch any kind of job in a company.
And how did the INS treat you when you tried to get your
Chinese wife into the USA? Lotsa interviews, right Mr. Patriot..."what color is his underwear" , "does she floss?" and such.
And now you are encouraging others to follow the same rotten path you did. A path that led you to beg for a job outside of teaching.
Sorry, I'm not a Canadian, loser!
And it's just TOOOOO bad you didn't take your big non-TEFL cert a** to Japan oh so many years ago rather than land in the Dragon

ESL "GURU"

To all of you who believe that you can teach without training -
You demean the profession and make it so diffucult for the real teachers.
You also cheat the students. You are lower than common thiefs because you do this knowingly and willingly. Shame on the whole damn lot of you.
|
If you really were a good teacher, ppl without training wouldn't be a threat. My goodness, I've only started out in this profession, I'm secure in my abilities and qualifications and am totally not threatened by "non qualified teachers".

Isn't it interesting when somebody makes a vague post to request information but then takes offense when a respondent doesn't give the reply the poster wanted to hear?
Is that not the whole purpose for posting on a forum like this? To hear many and varied opinions, whether you agree with them or not, and thus be able to make a more informed decision?

Ted,
We've all seen people like you before. You're the kind that will escape the minimum wage cage in your hometown (ok, maybe not Canada. Probably West Virginia.) and go to some other country where they don't recognize you for what you really are.
Then when you see some foreign-looking person walking in one of those areas where you wish you could lived, your tounge will droop out and you'll follow the person trying to at least sniff the smell of success -- all the while thinking that he / she stole your rightful place on the evolutionary scale and food chain right out from under your nose.
You shouldn't have believed everything Sally Struthers wrote on the back of that matchbook cover. |

Roger, I have been in Dongguan for one year now and I find it difficult to match your description of Dongguan with the Dongguan I live in. I am lucky enough to live live in East town with the mountains behind me and the swimming pool in front of me.
I have never been ripped off or exploited in China.

This thread is now ripped off, hijacked, and gone just as crazy as ESL teaching in China.
Welcome to the club.
Have fun.
Go to your neutral corners and come out swinging, again.
Hola - Senor where are you?

Kimo. serious, whenever I go shopping which I hate, friends accompany me to make sure I don't get ripped off. I was really referring to the jobs and the bosses I have had in China.
