|
|
Hello all,
I'd be interested in hearing anyone's opinions/experiences about this question:
I understand that some schools offer a return ticket for completing a one year contract; do schools ever reimburse you for the arrival ticket? For example, half upon signing, half upon completion of the term....What are the norms here, for the major cities? (Shanghai, Guangzhou...)
thanks,

Look at the huge red 2002 FE guide for the government guidelines for reimbursing airfares. Make sure your waiban gives you a look at his copy. I not sure what they are but I think if you're on a one year contract you are entitled to the outward part after 7 months...I haven't had mine cos I've only been here for one semester so will get it all at the end. |

Remember, the guidelines are just that - schools don't have to follow them. Not all schools pay airfare, though they may give you holiday salary or a bonus instead. Print out their web ads., and copies of emails concerning all benefits. Get the airfare added as a subclause to your contract, stipulating how much and when it will be paid. The amount differs, there's no set rules on this one. |

Ours is paid at the end of the contract at whatever the price of the ticket is then. It seems to be one of those negotiables !!

Many schools will offer half fare (one way) after one semester and return(round trip) after a full year. They may limit the dollar amount. My school pays 800.00 U.S. If you stay for one semester they will pay 400 at the end of the semester. If you stay for a year they pay 400 at the end of the first semester and 400 at the end of the second semester. We've (FT's) had no problem collecting our airfare. |

Just remember to insist on at least a business class ticket; they will get it if you push. |

My school paid my trip to China in advance, coach class. At the end of my first year they gave me the return ticket. I could have asked for the cash instead.
They did the same thing for my second year.
They are asking me to stay a third year and are making the same offer. |
