I'm planning to teach in China next month. I am a British citizen however I am off Indian ethnic origin and look Indian. Will I be discriminated or have problems living and working in china because of it? |

You may well be -- I think your best bets would be to look for a big city where there would be lots of job opportunities, go for a job with a reputable group like the British Council (my friend's mom is an Indian-born native speaker of English, and she came to Shanghai through the British Council, I think, which placed her at Shanghai University), and to talk to other South Asian people and asked where they worked. If a school has had a good experience with people of a certain ethnic group, they're more likely to hire someone again. Also, you'll know the school the person mentions doesn't have a policy of automatically refusing to hire non-white foreigners. |

I have seen photos of some posters who are teaching in China and they look south Asian, so I don't think it's a problem at all. I also know that there was a South African of Indian heritage teaching at my last school. |
