For Peace Corps TEFL volunteers who decide they want to teach after their two years of service are up but have no official TEFL certificate, how difficult is it to find work in a country that wasn't your country of service? Do employers insist on a certificate?

As an RPCV myself - and a former TEFL Cert teacher-trainer - my guess is that your PC training (don't forget to put those six weeks on your resume/CV!) is at least equal to the training you would get at ANY TEFL Cert course.

That said, there are only a couple countries where they really like to see a cert - Thailand specifically is one of them - most other countries will consider them a bit of frosting on the cake - but not require them.

Even Thailand does not require them - but does often ask for a cert in their adverts.

Realize though - my experience is almost all Asia - so other parts of the world may be different.

You'll have NO PROBLEM landing jobs. I wasn't a teacher in the PC - I managed a textile manufacturing company (!?) - but went to TEFL when I left - no problem. I've taught in Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Saudi Arabia - continuously since 1992.
