Hiya:
I have been looking at websites for the large language institutes in Japan. The GEOS site mentions that they will help you gain a CELTA certification. Is this just puffing or do many GEOS teachers walk away with this certification. Do the other institutes offer the same opportunity?
Take care,

I dont know how they can help you get a CELTA as CELTA is not connected to any particular language school or private company. CELTA takes one month to complete full time, and Language Resources offers a 12 week CELTA course in Kobe.
My only guess is that they give you the time off to attend classes (how nice of them). I have not heard of anything like this so i would press them for more details. They will certainly not pay for your CELTA fees which I believe are around 250-300,000 yen in Japan. |

Hi Paul:
From the GEOS web site: "CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is one of the most widely recognized ELT qualifications in the world and the most well established. GEOS aids teachers in gaining this qualification" http://www.geoscareer.com/compensation.html
The key seems to be how to interpret "GEOS aids teachers in gaining this qualification". I am hopeful that someone with experience gaining this certification with GEOS (or others) could tell me what kind of assistance was offered. |
