I am not propositioning babaAlex. It was a joke. He said b ugger me and I thought it was funny to write ok. It went on from there but I will stop now as I didn`t realise anyone would think it anything other than a joke. Besides I don`t fancy him judging by his picture.

How's this for a problem?

I'm not in Turkey. Yet. Have Turkish husband and we are trying to figure out whether or not to come back. And what happened today is solidifying the argument to come back.

Husband is a student, working for the summer at OPG - which is one of the nuclear power plants in Ontario. Two weeks ago a bomb-like object was found and it was a big problem; breach in security and the like. OPG upped the vigilance.

Last week, hubby wanted to quit. He works with students who continually make racist and anti-muslim remarks. Ask him where his towel is, etc. They obviously know nothing of Turkey. They also edge him on about Greece and Armenia, hoping to light his fuse.

Despite this being the best break we have had in this country, he wanted to quit. His supervisor talked him out of it, and switched his position. Of course, because hubby mentioned the big R word (racism) it had to be checked out. The b*stards then reported that he claimed to know how ot make bombs, and that it was likely him who had previously.

They called in the SWAT team, interrogated him, searched his vehicle - the whole she-bang.

I am so ready to come back. We are one semester away from his diploma.

By the way - he wasn't the only muslim interrogated over those phoney bombs.

Am not happy. Thinking this country (Canada) is sucking more and more every day.

The majority of people in the west are ignorant of Turkey and Islam. Before coming here so was I.

After the London bombs last Thursday i hear there has been a number of attacks on Muslims and mosques back in the uk.
In my opinion the people who throw a stone through a mosque window and beat up innocent people on the street are no worse than the suppossed* islamic militants. They are both on the same stage of evolutionary development.


* I use this word because many people in the UK equate Islam= terrorist. Just go down a local pub and listen to the conversations

oh man, that's terrible sandyhoney. isn't it called profiling what they've done to your husband and his muslim co-workers?

i'm actually glad that the states is relatively more pc. at least people here don't say what they're thinking to your face too often. but after the iraq war started, the local news channel here started to ask local residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving foreigners! they continuously say this "even your neighbor can be a terrorist!!! so always be on the watch out"... an indian american (he looks very middle eastern) was taken in by the police when he was taking pictures from a bridge! he's a photography enthusiast and was born and raised here. not even muslim.

hosgorun them to a degree. they're doing it because of fear. (although this is no reason to treat foreigners like crap) i know it's hard, believe me.

i really hope everything works out for the best for both of you.


p.s. may all exotics all over the world feel and be treated like natives soon.

Thanks alterego - appreciated. Problem is now that it is three against one and the odds are not looking too good for my husband. There is an inquiry into the matter going on right now, and he may or may not lose his job.

*big sigh* I am embarrassed by how Canada is treating him and other Muslims. It is a multiculturalism of food, dress and music only. Don't know how or why I ever believed differently.
