[Boy Wonder]

After years expecting to teach in classrooms fitted with an adequate number of chairs I have recently seen the light.

No more complaining from me that I am chairless.

You see I have found that teaching unencumbered with needless wood, metal or chinese plastic is a revelation.

The possibilities for exciting new activities are endless.
Rotating speaking circles, uncluttered floorbased pairwork, dash games involving the board, video workshops, songs involving dramatic body movements..its great!!

No more fidgeting and screeching, scraping chair noises.
No more kids trying to break shoulder bones by balancing chairs on 2 legs.
No more slouching.

I didn't ask for a classroom without chairs....I was just given one but am I glad...
It's made my job a whole lot easier and I am definately a chairless convert.....indeed who knows....before long someone might take the radical step of teaching in a deskless zone...!

Now that's education without boundaries!!!

I can see what you mean, and perhaps if you're teaching kids a chairless room would be a great environment.

However, I dont think it's for everyone. In my M.A. program I took a course which involved a lot of physical activity- drama games mostly. It was stimulating and often very effective.

But, once you're over 20 years old, sometimes you just need to sit down. And have back support. Especially if you're working full time and the class meets at night.
