my friend who lives in playa told me yesterday he's making like 70-100 dollars, not pesos per day working in a souvenir shop. i'm happy about that. it's more than he's used to making, but his wage is never only 50 pesos, that's like $5. |

I'm not a liar. I wouldn't lie about something like that. In fact, I don't lie much about anything. My friiend is not a capitalist pig just because he makes 700 pesos. It's busy season there and of course he's gonna make money, it's all about how good of a salesperson you are. He's not the only one. Even in slow season, he makes more than 50 pesos. |

Wow! No wonder people go there to work. That is BIG money. That in a week is considered good in this area for many. |

yeah my friends make pretty good working at souvenir shops, but like i said july and august are busy months there. during slow season they make 40-50 dollars per day. when this thread started out moonraven mentioned hotels. my friends who've worked at hotels have always complained to me about the wage and their management. However, as the thread went on it seemed like she was making a generalization about all mexicans in playa and that they only make 50 pesos per day. That amount is too small even for hotels. |

I have a suggestion: Why don't you ALL work in souvenir shops in Playa del Carmen?
Wow, talk about self-actualization on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs! |

Proof would mean showing official figures of the average wages by types of businesses of Mexican workers in Playa del Carmen.
An anecdotal account on Dave's of one acquaintance who is supposedly making 700 dollars (7600 psos) a week in a souvenir shop is in no way proof of anything.
Except perhaps the poster's willingness to believe what everyone tells her. |

In moonravenlunatic's utopia, we would all be making 50 pesos a day. We are all equal (well, except for those of us with a PhD). |

I was just making a statement. Your generalization that all mexicans in playa del carmen make crap (50 pesos) is crap. I don't believe everything someone tells me. He's one of my best friends and he wouldn't lie to me about something like that especially when he's told me what he's made on bad days, which is $20 dollars. I didn't say all mexicans in playa make this amount and I also mentioned it was busy season.
I also never claimed that this was concrete proof that there aren't any mexicans in playa who might not a decent wage. I was just stating that it's not true of all of them
I also never said in that post about my friend -ha ha moonraven wrong again. So don't get your socks in a bunch! |

That was cute. Is it a spin-off from "don't get your knickers in a twist", or "don't get your shirt in a knot"? |

yeah it is! I wanted to say so get your underwear out of your ass but I thought that might be a little mean or she could be wearing a thong and I just didn't want to go there or even think about that. |
