Aside from the accusations against the school didn't the sticky post also allude to corruption or whatever by a magistrate. I mean that could tick off some very serious 'legal' people. So maybe Dave was taking more than just flak from an irate advertiser. |
Possible, but unlikely. Still, there has been some obvious collusion here. The fact that immigration still allows this school to sponsor visas despite apparently knowing full well how this school treats its teachers indicates a certain level of collusion to me. Not to mention the Kagawa judicial system. |

Sorry to bring this up again after a week, but a similar thing is happening over on the China off-topic forum.
http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/job/viewtopic.php?t=27676
Although I agree that Dave is king of the nest around here and what he says goes (it is his site), maybe he should make a statement himself? A great many people are getting upset over these and many other issues.
Food for thought:
- Imagine being kicked out KFC back at home for critisizing China's human rights record because they happen to do business in China. Bets are, KFC sales domestically would drop.
- Dave's ESL is an American website, one governed by the laws of the United States of America. |

Pleased to see that this thread is still up.
Notable that this school hasn't advertised here for a wee while. |

I'm glad the thread hasn't been deleted, and if Tomanaga decides not to do business with Dave over this, I hope it doesn't hurt him financially. |

|

To me, the main thing that differentiates ESL Cafe from Gaijjinpot.com is the good work that Paul H does as moderator here on the forum. Gaijinpot is full of trolls. For example, there was a thread regarding the Public Prosecutor's investigation of Nova and near half of the thread contains a flame war between two former Interac employees.
Gaijinpot hires a person to eliminate their forum for anything that might be construed as criticism against advertisers, and then it lets these flame wars continue. As well, you cannot even begin a thread on Gaijinpot that begins with a posting for a URL of a union.
I would like to see the industry regulated as a whole. Right now, it is on par with loan sharking. That would include job websites such as Dave's and Gaijinpot. There are telecommunications laws that these websites have to adhere to. If these websites are violating these laws they should be held accountable.
Maybe people will come to understand that these unregulated job websites are part of the problem in the industry and fewer organizations will recommend them.
I know the US State Department has a link to Dave's ESL Cafe (http://exchanges.state.gov/education/engteaching/eal-jobs.htm) and Susan Griffith's book Teach English Abroad recommends Dave's ESL Cafe without any warning that the websites are not regulated. What do you think? |

It doesnt even require that any more. the OP on Gaijinpot deleted a thread about an eikaiwa blacklist that did not even mention Gp by name or any of GPs clients. I happened to mention that the big ESL sites censor criticism and the thread is taken down with two days.
they are definitely paranoid over there.
Akula: you are fighting a losing battle. Dave is going to do whatever he wants and doesnt give a scrap what posters think. Paying clients come first. |

Paul,
futile it isn't. The fact that this thread has stayed up for so long at least is enough for me, after the swiftness that other threads and posts in the job information journal have been pulled. At least some applicants are going to read this and be put off that school. |
