I say Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. Sure, things are more expensive there but they do pay more. My cousin taught a year in Taiwan and he came back with thousands of US dollars.

I say Taiwan. The cost of living versus the pay is great. The cities are safe and it is easy to travel. Jobs come in all varieties, everything laid out for you to pretty much on your own. There is a great potential for extra income in the form of privates. There is also a large expat community so networking with other teachers is not a problem.

Bringing non-working partners can be a problem if you are not married. Someone has to sponsor your residency. A spouse with an ARC can do this. If not you are looking at expensive visa runs.

Definitely not China. Maybe one of those other countries you mentioned, ie. Taiwan.

Whaddaya got against China? I don't do too badly here. But actually, this being the only country I've taught in Asia, I'm more curious than anything. What's so good about the other places...

Korea and Japan I hear not so good things about. Korea is tough to work and Japan is oversaturated with teachers. That's what I hear at least.
