|
|
Hello All!
Please excuse the off-topic post! I would really like some advice on language schools for learning Colloquial Egyptian Arabic in Cairo this summer, and I am sure someone on this board knows something that could help me!!!
I am thinking about a school called "Drayah Language Center" because the price seems good: only US$250 for 110 hours, or only $2.5/hour.
I would like to ask if anybody knows anything about Drayah! In particular, how is the quality of instruction?
I wrote them an email about the summer courses and a very polite man replied:
In regard to your request about the start date of our summer intensive course, I would like to inform you that we run courses every week in June, July and August and the courses take from 4 to 5 weeks.
This seems somewhat unusual to me, because most of the other schools have fixed start dates every few weeks for new courses.
This is what I want in a language course this summer!
-Egyptian colloquial Arabic
-very good-quality instruction
-good price (maybe $2-5 per hour)
-intensive classes (maybe 20 hours a week!)
Thank you for any help!

Hi Andy,
I can't help as I don't know the place. But, for that price, you can hardly go wrong. I learned all my Arabic from the taxi drivers and my students. Needless to say, I didn't learn all that much.
Did you post this on the Lonely Planet Thorntree too? There are often people discussing various Arabic studies options. I think you can use the search without joining.
Good luck... it can be great fun spending a bit of time there.

Sara,
There was a discussion of this topic on the General Middle East board awhile back. Try doing a search on it...
