i have heard that unless you are 5'3, finding some decent clothes in taiwan is a tall order. can anyone tell me the kind of clothes i need. i'm assuming nothing too warm.

also, i'm not bringing my guitar with me b/c i don't want to lug it around. will i be able to find a decent guitar over there?
thanks

Both clothes and guitars are easy to come by and cheap. If you are over 7 feet tall or wear size XXL you may have some problems.
What you will have problems finding are deodorant and condoms that are not the the government prescribed dimensions, (small).
Good luck,
A.

How cheap are the guitars? Is it easy to find a used one? I'm thinking of bringing my 5 dollar one over, but it'd be better to get one there instead.

think about all those "made in Taiwan" tags...clothes are the least of your problems of what to bring, but do bring your favorites. guitars are also easy - check online or on ads for second-hand deals. also, 5'3'' is hardly the avg. height of TW people nowadays. i agree w/ aristotle about the deodorant; condoms i am not sure - but there are certainly some interesting brands. also, some reliable over-the-counter meds. might be good to bring (e.g. - allergy, cold medicine, etc.) b/c pharmacies don't normally carry the brands you're used to.

I've never had any problem finding deo d'orante here. Clothes for Westerners can be found at Costco, malls and night markets. I bought a whack of oversized Eddie Bauer sweatshirts for $ 10 CDN each last week in Kaohsiung. My wife picked up some Tommy Hilfiger sweaters for $ 20 each from a "didn't make it to the container ship" sale, Sears tags still on them.

Dear Xenophobe,

Just wondering about the location of that "didn't make it to the container ship" sale. Were they selling only clothes?

Also, was this an established location...or just something you ran across on the side of the road?

Thanks in advance for any additional info you could provide!!!

Truly amazing how many "export only" items fall off the truck on Taiwan and are sold out the back of a blue truck.

Sometimes people tell you where the "sale"is going to be and other times you just run across them. Everything from purses to briefcases to clothing can be found. And yes, watch for those litle blue trucks being swarmed by hordes of shoppers. Though fewer in number than a few years ago, they still happen.
