Hello everyone,
I have been offered a faculty position with HCT. I have been trying to determine what is a good salary for someone with 10yrs of computer industry experience and 3 yrs teaching computer applications. I was offered a salary from 10-12kdhs per month but after talking with people in other teaching position, I was told it is way too low. I am American with a Masters in Education. So my question is: what is a good salary for someone with the experience and education background as stated above. I understand that this is an ESL forum but I would like any advice, suggestions, etc.. from anyone who may be able to provide information. Thank you. |

Unfortunately you are asking this when most people are traveling. We have a regular poster who teaches in IT with HCT, but I fear he will not be online and reading right now.
I don't know the actual knowledge level of the person who suggested to you that it was 'way too low.' With an MA and three years of teaching experience, 12000 would be perfectly acceptable. Since you also have 10 years of computer related experience prior to your teaching, the 10,000 would be low.
Remember that it is all tax free, so that is your take home pay. Personally I would compare it to the pay for teaching with your credentials in the US... no brainer... I'd jump at the chance myself. (especially when you add free housing, cheap medical care, long vacations and a free ticket to the mix)

Thank you VS
Initially, I thought it would be an excellent salary, but after hearing the opinion of other teachers (whom, I might add, is teaching in the lower grades but has been in the UAE for quite some years), I decided to at least do further research on the matter. Many thanks for the quick response. Look forward to corresponding with you again. Have a wonderful summer and please try to stay cool. Sincerely, teach05 |

Goodness, wonder where this teacher is that is getting so much money... makes me wonder since the only teachers that I know making the big bucks are those that have been there for umpteen years with the same employer.
Sometimes they forget that entry level teachers don't get to start at their heights.

10,000 - 12,000 is the normal range for three years post-MA teaching experience. . . probably closer to 12,000. |
