Hi.
I was thinking of of coming out to Buenos Aires at the start of 2006. However, whenever you look on tefl websites you never see jobs advertised for Argentina. If I was to just turn up and look for work how easy would it be to find around 20-25 a week teaching?
I do have a celta, and I`m currently teaching in Japan, saving up the yen before I head over to SA.

|

<you can find jobs here. if you want 25 hours you might need to work at two or even three places, depending on the time of the season. <of course the salary wont be as good as Japan, about 3 to 6 USD per hour and youll have to work illegally, but if you are interested in Latin culture then Im sure youll have a great time.
regards,

Hi!
I have a TEFL certificate, taught English to Spanish speaking groups and individuals, will my experience help me find a good paying teaching job in Argentina, specifically in Mendoza? I see different hourly rates, what is the norm? 15 pesos an hour? |

ARS 15/h is average to good in Capital Federal and GBA Norte. In Mendoza, the average is between ARS 8 and 10 per hour. |

Whats a normal workload for teachers in Mendoza? At 8 pesos an hour dont you need to work a lot of hours? Or is Argentina really as affordable as they say? Thanks. |

Well, I don't really know, I've never worked in Mendoza. But there is a big difference in prices between CF and the rest of the country, and I imagine Mendoza being quite cheaper than Capital. There are a few posters who work in Mendoza, perhaps you could PM them. |

Almost sure that I want to try it out in Buenos Aires. I heard about the wages, how cheap flats are in comparision to BCN or Madrid., the people, etc. etc. etc. Been teaching between BCN and Madrid and these cities can be expensive. Having no idea of South America, how much does one need to earn in Buenos Aires to live comfortably. Nothing fancy, but yes, must be able to go out, bars, long weekends out of the city, shared flat is no problem. |

minimum of around 1200 pesos... but a lot of that depends on whether or not you can find a reasonable place to live (and how long it takes you to find such a place). |

I would agree with amy absolute minimum is $1200. rent will be your major expense that could eat into nearly half of your rent unless you get a deal. Its not uncommon to pay $500 a month to share a place. But transport is cheap and if you livwe in Once, Recoleta, Microcentro or san Telmo then most of your classes should be within walking distance. If you arrive in January you rmay find if tough to find work. Most peole dont take classes between December and March. Otherwise the bare minimum of classes you need to do to survive is about 18 for business students, of course if you have privates theyll pay better
Ok bye for now

I have mostly private students. Lucky I guess because I know lots of people. The institutes pay between 10 and 15 pesos an hour. Understand that you can have a class of 10 but will still only get the 10 to 15 pesos. Also understand that English is a luxury. Some weeks I am working so much I can't stand it and others I have everyone cancel.
You do have to hustle to make decent money to live on. The cost of living is cheap here. But if you are living in pesos, it is all relative. |
