| I was saddened to see from this sight the mention of police report requirements. I made a mistake over 25 years ago but it's on record. So much for my dream to try Vietnam. I wish the best to everyone. |

Don't count yourself out yet. There seem to be a lot of conflicting reports about this: some schools requiring them but others not, work permit requirements only being enforced in HCMC, the whole thing being forgot about by next month, etc. Try and get all the information you can before coming to the conclusion that it's impossible for you to teach in Viet Nam.
Anybody on the ground in VN got the latest on what's happening with this confusing situation?

The Department of Education in HCM City has just announced that it will be inspecting all schools' legal compliance in August.
Police reports: the law says that if there is anything on your police record then you can't get a work permit. The Department of Labor still issue work permits if the police report has little issues like drink driving etc.
The Department of Labor doesn't seem to mind where the police report is from so if you have committed a crime in Queensland why not try getting a police report from New South Wales. I do think it would have to be from the same country as your passport, however.
I have previously written that I doubt this will affect Vietnamese state owned schools and the many teachers teaching privately for a very long time to come so I wouldn't let these new regulations frighten you off from teaching in Vietnam.
I also believe this crackdown is only in HCM City and not in Hanoi. |

The sugar bowel was empty. I grabbed the wrong canister and ended up putting salt in my coffee instead of sugar. That was a mistake. I am not sure if something that can stick on your police record for 25 years can be dismissed as a �mistake�.
