So my computer completely crashed and the person who put it back together put Chinese XP onto the system. No problem. I can navigate windows XP with my eyes closed anyway so I certainly don't care if the OS displays Chinese characters. BUT the version of MS office he put on also is the Chinese version and no matter how many times I tell it that I DON'T want to type in Chinese characters. No matter how many times I reset the default to an English font and instruct it to use NORMAL text without Asian characters it switches IMMEDIATELY back to Chinese characters. What am I doing wrong? A word processor that only will type in Chinese is worse than useless!

BTW: On topic because I can't bloody well write lesson plans as it is right now. I actually intended this to go into off-topic (better safe than sorry) but I clicked the wrong button. OPS: Please have mercy, don't delete!

Give yourself a favor, would you?; invest on a 5 or 7 RMB Office 2003.
Make sure this one is en ENG.
Uninstall the previous one, install the new one and voila.....

Thanks MM! Actually I went downstairs and talked to Tom (the FT who has been here for the last 3.5 years; he lives directly below me) and he suggested that. It works just fine.

OK Mods, problem solved. If you think this is on-topic enough to leave for others with the same problem by all means do so otherwise delete away. Wink
