It's not so important how much you make. The bottom line is how much you *save* in hard currency after 6-12 months. So add up income, subtract expenses of modest living and ...tada!

I figure the pyramid goes like this as far as expenses go...

Hong Kong
SECs like Shenzen
Macau
Shanghai
Beijing
Medium sized cities (whioch to a Canadian like me means mammoth cities)
Small cities
countryside

And the expenses pyramid would be in reverse. However there might be a statistical point where the earnings are good enough and the living modest enough. Suggestions?

Of course there is a complicating real-world factor - where jobs are plentiful but expenses still not the highest.

It all depends on the lifestyle you choose while you are here (or there).

My only indulgences are TCM, hotsprings and a beer once a week. Maybe a weekend visit to Hainan every 2 months. I just need to pay off US$200-300 a month on my mastercard. I buy a few pirated VCDs/Mp3 compilations. I don't go nightclubbing and I presume the hassle and costs involved for any special entertainment would best be reserved for S.E. Asia holidaying. - with the exception of Hainan mentioned above.
