Hi all,
I've been reading this board for about 6 months and want to thank you all for the fantastic info. I'll be heading out end of Sep for a year or so and the info here has been invaluable. I feel a bit like a snooping Tom since I've never posted anything so I figured I should say hi and thanks. Obviously I will wait till I get there to rent an apartment but can anyone tell me if there is a huge difference in price between newspaper ads locally and the websites which you have mentioned previously and I have looked at? Thanks again and who knows, maybe I'll meet some of you once I'm out there.
Regards
Nathalie

yes, there's a huge difference. any apartment you get from someone who "rents to foreigners" is going to be EXPENSIVE. you'll probably pay in dollars what people would pay in pesos - possibly even more. and going through an agent means you have to pay a pretty steep commission...

go local!!! get a place for a month or two at the most if you really want to have somewhere to stay when you get here. look around for a cheaper place. make lots of contacts. find a way to slip into the conversation that you're looking for a place... Wink someone will know someone that can help you out. www.clarin.com has a good classifieds section and the prices are in pesos, but not all of them are available to foreigners.
