Corall and Dmb.......sounds great about the drinks. Can do a comparison of the drinking habits of Thailand based foreign teacher vs Turkey.
So, which group do you think will have the longer staying power?
Cheers! |

I can totally empathise about being the only female. When I leave my school in September, there will be wall-to-wall males. (Taiwan) |

coffee-- mehmet efendi behind the spice bazar sells colimbian, braziliam and ethopian ground coffee. Many kuruyemis stores also sell it. It is about 10TL for a big box. People are slowly learning about filter coffee here. You can even get coffee filters, though coffee makers are hard to find and good ones are very expensive. You might want to bring one of the plastic melitta filter holders. my coffee maker broke, so I make coffee into the bottom part of a caydan (teapot)-- heresy I know.
large clothes-- tailors or places in osmanbey.
fitted sheets-- no prob, esp in bakirkoy. you can get sets with the fitted sheet and pillow cases and then you have to buy to top sheet separately (go figure).
check out the questions for women thread on some of these. |

DMB - thanks for the thread. I forget to use the seach function. I especially liked the part where there was a conflict btw BE/NAE over "pants". There is a good discussion on bras in there as well, that any big-busted potential teacher must look at.
I had never thought of going to a tailor, though it is only logical seeing as how many there actually are. Everybody sews. Makes my own efforts at seam repair seem extremely amateurish. Even my husband can sew better than me. Or I. Whichever. |

As I pointed out to teachers in Thailand after half a year of after school beers...." I really don't like beer..."
But that was all on offer under the bridge and I liked the conversation...(at least it was in english!)
Cheers!
PS....Efes sounds like beer Leo in thailand...I managed to get that down....(smile) |
