I have just finished my first year of teaching in Nanning, China. Would like to go somewhere a little more developed My thoughts are Taiwan because I will be using the same language I have use this year (badly!) but also Korea as the country sounds pretty wonderful. In addition to my years experience I also have a CELTA and a BA degree. With this will I be able to get a job where I can save well. I need to start paying off my student loan to the NZ government.
I Would appreciate any help.

a lot of people hated korea.

come to Taipei with enough money to hold you over for a month. You won't need it though. You'll find something in Taipei very quickly.

Lots of cheap hostels to stay in around the Taipei Station area - google search.

check out forumosa and tealit.com for more job postings.

Taiwan is a great place to make money. You do have to work a little more then the average job in China. Your experience in China will help you settle in a bit faster. Most jobs are teaching kids. They can be babies (literally) to high school age.

If/When you come you can set up a couple of interviews before you arrive. This will allow you to check out some schools and get a feel for what the buxiban scene is like. I would also suggest you make friends with some of the other expats in town. They often know what schools are hiring and what schools to avoid.

Good Luck.

Korea is better for beginners because it provides you with an air ticket, housing and visa costs. However, in the second year things start to even out and having your own apt will be an advantage. As other people have said, they both have positives and negatives about them. Overall, I prefer TW though.
