A company my friend works for lost his US visa. He called me for help. I haven't encountered this problem before so I am not sure what to tell her. Can anyone on this site offer me any advice?

First of all, in most cases the visa should be in your passport. Has your friend lost their passport as well? Or could you be talking about a Residence Permit ("green card")?

Is this a Chinese friend who's lost their passport and a US visa? Or an American friend who's lost a US passport and a Chinese visa? Or has someone lost a green card? Or something else???

American Friend
Lost Passport
Still has green book

Contact his nearest embassy or consulate.
If he's got his passport number it would be helpful, but if contacting his embassy hasn't occured to him it's unlikely he has recorded it.

Exactly right....contact the US Consulate for your region and get another passport.
Then take it and your green book to the Chinese Foreign Affairs office and get the visa replaced.

If you have a person at your employer who handles visa matters be sure and get them involved...they may know things we don't. For example, it may be wise to report the visa loss to the Foreign Affairs/Public Security offices so that getting the replacement is easier.

I think we'd sorted out that bobo meant "passport" by about post #3.

Thanks for your help. Apparently it was stolen from her place at work...the Police did no type of investigation. She and her employers had to watch a series of office video to find the suspicious person who took it.

No luck there. It's been reported and she has gone to the consulate to replace it. Thanks again for your help.

Dr.B. you've done it again! Please continue with this "face" concept, as we unqualified, uneducated China TEFLers [heaven forbid we call ourselves teachers!] don't understand such an idea, as we don't have this "face" ourselves. Which textbook should we refer to? What do you mean, exactly, by face? Which definition are you using?
