Hi all of you. Thanks for all the posts

How much cash do ya'll think i will need to have in savings before i board a plane to South America? I will have a CELTA and English degree, but no teaching experience. I know some Spanish.

I think I might have to teach in Korea for a year just to get enough money to relocate to South America. I really want to move to Argentina, but I am willing to do that.

Any posts about this will be appreciated!

Deborah

South America is very big. Have you thought about narrowing it down a little? Economies vary greatly from one country to its neighbor...

Regards,

Justin

You should have enough for return airfare, a couple of monthsrent and living expenses (even if you have a job lined up before you go, you want to make sure youre covered until you get your first paycheck), an emergency fund, and something left behind in your account back home so you dont go back empty-handed.

For me, the first month or so tends to be much more expensive than the next year, not only because of the start-up costs but also because I feel like a bit of a tourist at the beginning and want to do touristy things--weekend trips, souvenirs, etc. If you want to do those things, bring plenty of extra cash.
