A quick warning about one University here in Beijing that has just gone off the rails.
Be very sure that what you want and what you get are the same thing.
The University is China Agricultural University and the department is the International College at Beijing.
There has been a coup at the palace and the old management folks, who understood us foreigners, have, to a tee, been replaced by robots controlled by the parent Uni. CAU have forceably overtaken ICB.
Those of you thinking of teaching here, well, hear this:
English contract: The monthly pay rate has been reduced by 40%.
You will be expected to teach for 16 hours per week, yet then you have to spend 24 hours per week in a supervised office. clock on, clock off. If you run out of papers to mark or lessons to prepare, they will find work for you. All this for Y3,000 pm.
The rooms that are provided are basically motel rooms, but because of the renovations on campus, you may have to live on the west campus and teach on the east campus. or even stay out at Pingguoyuan or Badachu.
They will: rip you off on the phone calls. You WILL have a problem every month with your wage. You WILL have problems with your Visa with them, and you WILL be lied to. Pressure WILL be brought on you to pass halfwits.
If interested, more by PM.
Cheers, Harry
