Average salary here in China is 8000RMB, approximately 986U$ or 800Euros. (Apartment included)

You can only survive in Spain with 800Euro, unless you live in a pueblo lost en la Mancha....

So how do you guys do it in Argentina?

The cost of living in Argentina is a lot lower. You don't need 800 Euro per month to live nicely.

You can live decently in CF with ARS 1200 a month. ARS 1200 is about EUR 350.

Decently meaning: going out twice or thrice a week, sharing a flat or living in a smallish place (25-40 square meters) in a not too shabby area, eating well (meat every day!), taking advantage of the cultural activities, maybe taking lessons of something once or twice a week. The odd weekend trip as well, but you'll have to dig in your savings to travel abroad! Still I think this is decent. Wink

Oh, okay. The rental property for foreigners is ridiculous. The prices are outrageous. Just get a normal apartment.

Being a former English teacher in Madrid (missing Madrid already!) and now teaching in Buenos Aires, I can tell you that I survived and lived on 800 euros a month. Living expenses - rent, metrobus, food, utilities, was 450-475 so the rest was money to enjoy the famous Madrid nightlife with! Of course I could only go by the designer shops on Calle Serrano in Barrio Salamanca, (Armani, Prada, Gucci Crying or Very sad ) but what does one expect on a teacher's salary?! Buenos Aires is cheaper on all counts but you earn lesser.

Good to know that because Im off to Madrid in the New Year. More wintertime for me I suppose. Ill be careful not to use some of the Spanish I learned in Argentina! At least some words.
