For the past three weeks I have been trying to collect as much information as possible on CELTA courses around the world.

Can any one share some of their experiences on the shortest and/or reasonable and/or enjoyable CELTA courses they attended?

There are goodness knows how many posts on Dave's on this very subject. You can use the Search facility by clicking on the appropriate button on the top of the page and entering CELTA as the subject in the search page. You are bound to find more posts on the CELTA than you can shake a proverbial stick at!

If you then find that none of the posts you read through answers any specific questions you might have, please feel free to post a question.

Happy searching! Very Happy

Thank you Chriss Crossley for your reply. I will certainly do as you advised and search for these topics. It would have been nice though to have ONE topic in the forum listing ALL or if not then most information on CELTA including: prices, durations, locations and recommendations!

All full time CELTA courses take 4 weeks.

Prices change over time.

Locations change (but more slowly).

If you are compiling ALL the relevant info on ALL the CELTA courses in the world then by all means post it.

Why should any of us do this research for you? How much are you proposing to offer as compensation for our skills and time as researchers?

stillnosheep.... thank you for your invaluable input into this topic.... however, I must admit, I never thought about a reward scheme.... (but hey what happened to good old Mrs. McDonalds' words at primary school where she used to remind us all of the benefits of sharing?!! )...tell you what.... once most areas on CELTA are covered, I am going to buy you mates a drink! How about that? Now this is an offer you can't refuse!

Back to the CELTA business, a dear friend of mine informed me that she did a course in Manchester (UK) at Manchester Academy for English for 990. This course lasts for exactly 26 days (nearly 4 weeks as you indicated stillnosheep), however, she did mention something about a course that lasts only 24 days. I do appreciate the fact that 24, 26 and 28 days are all nearly 4 weeks, but for some teachers, like me, a couple of days shorter will be greatly appreciated! Very Happy

26 days is four (working) weeks. Mon-Fri = 5 days. x4=20. +3weekends (3X2days = 6days) = 26days.

A 4 week CELTA course starting on Monday 1st and ending four weeks later on Friday 26th will last 4 weeks or 26 days.

As I quickly found out two years ago, the full-time CELTA courses are extremely intense. When the tutors say stuff like 'put your life on hold' for the course duration, they aren't kidding!

This isn't a deterrent, but more a reminder of the realities that the OP hopefully knows what (s)he is getting into.

If it's truly a CELTA they have to cover the same material as a regular course. They're trying to cram 4 weeks of work into 3 weeks of suffering, they're skipping material and aren't a proper CELTA or they're not counting weekends in their total.

Entrailicus and Is650 many thanks for your posts. I must admit, this CELTA thing has taken a lot of my time and I must admit (although I hate to because he was mean to me!).... stillnosheep is right in that nearly ALL centres in ALL the world have to make sure that you complte 120 hours. And thus the course will span over four weeks (28 days full time) in nearly all of the centres.

It would have been nice if at least one or two ESL colleagues would have shared earlier this information with me and/or their experience of the CELTA course as I am still hesitant on where to do it. (I am trying to save some money and time and if possible enjoy this CELTA course).

Now I know for sure that it is fours weeks, I want to look for the best place to do it with a reasonable price..... any help is greatly appreciated Very Happy

Some CELTAs run for four weeks, a few for five weeks and a very few are part time over three months. Some schools even have the cheek to charge more for the longer courses.

As far as I've been able to ascertain, the cheapest places in the world to do a CELTA are Brazil and Ukraine (~$1000USD). There are so many courses in the UK that it would be quite a task to check, but the cost of living is so outrageous there that it would probably work out to be the most expensive in the world.

Many thanks for that Aramas..... to be honest, it sounds like I will be doing the CELTA in sunny Spain. I know the prices are not that cheap compared to Brazil and Ukraine, but the sunny skies and lovely beaches with beauties all around can't be beaten Wink
