Well not completely without quals...what countries can I can teach English with the following -
- I have CELTA
- I have 2 education papers towards a BA & did a year of primary teacher training - both a long time ago (yes I know that probably won't cut it),
- Only want a few months of making reasonable / good money, pref somewhere close'ish to home (NZ)
Appreciate your advice - but please keep your answers straightforward
Any creative solutions also welcome ie maybe private tutoring. summer camps, etc?
thanks heaps |

If you have no degree you can work on a 6 month working holiday visa in Japan. For full time jobs in Korea Taiwan and japan you need a degree. China is possible but pay is very low.
Degree is needed for work visa, not as a teaching qualification, and even with CELTA your choices are limited if you cant get a work visa. |

Is anywhere close to New Zealand?
Seriously though, I've met and worked with teachers with less qualifications than you. That's Eastern Europe though. You won't be making money to save and take home. I think you realise that with the qualifications you have, you're going to have problems getting into the countries and into the jobs where you can save.
What about Thailand? People seem to come out of there relatively solvent financially. Do you need a degree for there? |

I know people who have found work in Thailand recently with no degree, but with a certificate of some sort [not sure which one], so I think with a CELTA you should be able to find work especially as there is a definite lack of teachers now. Also, you will increase your chances of finding work if you are willing to teach very young kids. The pay in Thailand is not expecially good.

I also met people teaching with no degree in Vietnam but that was last year and things are changing there now, or maybe not. The demand exists, but the gov't is contemplating, possibly implementing strict regulations regarding work permits, etc. Some say this is only in Ho Chi Minh City though. |
