Hi,

I've been planning on coming down to Latin American for some time now to teach english. One of my girlfriends has just decided to join me for a month or so and she would like to volunteer somewhere. I know that this is a fairly broad question, but is anyone on here linked with and organization that accepts volunteers, or knows of organizations? Anywhere in Latin America is fine, perhaps mostly in Ecuador, Peru, Chile, or Argentina.

Thanks so much.

If Ecuador is fine, there are lots of possibilities, both to teach and to volunteer. (And to teach as a volunteer.)

I work for an organisation that places international volunteers in local organisations. (Amongst many other things.) But to be honest, for someone who's only coming for a month or two, a volunteer placement, with formal training, etc, might come out a bit expensive. Probably a better choice would be to get in contact with organisations directly once you're here. If "here" turns out to be Ecuador, I would be more than happy to put you, your friend, and anyone else you know in contact with ALOT of possible situations to volunteer. (A few organisations charge a base fee, $50 or so, to cover things like training, and others might ask you to help buy materials, such as paint. But many others merely ask that you make, and keep, a commitment to help, and don't mind being drooled on by small children, for example.)

Regards,
Justin
