None of the above.
I normally carry a cloth shoulder bag that, if it were larger and vinyl-reinforced, would be described as a sports bag in Britain. Sometimes I carry an A2 size case for when I need to bring large picture books or other large documents that shouldn't be folded.. |

| Laptop backpak. Made in China, bought in Australia! In it I carry my umbrella, Chinese-English dictionary, notebook, two pairs of glasses, bottle of water, various paperwork, small towel, toilet paper, makeup, sunscreen, insect repellent, handcream, headache pills, book, hairbrush, mp3, USB memory stick, (leave the laptop at home), some fruit, coffee bags, plastic tea jar. |

In the past I've tried using snazzy-looking fabric "briefcases" or satchels but they just never last long enough and there's never enough room for lunches and stuff.
So after the last one wore out I just decided to give up on the "professional" look and go back to the good old backpack. Inside the backpack is the paper organizer that protects all the papers books and casettes and keeps them all together. Then inside I have about 3-4 little fabric "cases" with zips that good old mom sent me. Really handy. I have another 5 at home.
So in one little case I have my "important papers", bank cads and credit cards.
In another little case I have my cd player and cds.
In another little case I have bencils, pens, erasers, sharpeners and everything else.
If I go overnight I just throw in my "toilet kit" with toothbrush, soap and stuff.
It's the best arrangement I've found. A backpack with many smaller little "goodie bags" inside.
I have no idea where my mother got them from. |

I use a briefcase myself in an effort to appear professional.
It usually contains:
whiteboard and transparency markers,
pencil and eraser
my work permit
an umbrella [at least now during the rainy season]
a bottle of water
a thermos with brewed coffee [on days when have 8 a.m. classes]
a paperback novel
my school ID [used for swiping in]
textbook, name lists and handouts [on days when I have classes]
the occasional sandwich from the canteen
some clorets
My paracetemol goes in my pocket
and my toothpaste + toothbrush and spare socks are kept in my office desk.

To tell you the truth I hardly ever use it as I spend most of my time in the office on the computer [shared] which is on another table. |

^ Actually, it was a 7-11 hanger.
I'm cheap and stupid and I feel so ashamed.

Oh yeah, I also keep a small library in the back of my car. Much easier than having them at either home or work because when they're at home i need them at work and when their at work I need them for at home. And no way I'm luggin all of them around I also keep a casette player in the car.
I do use public transport, but often dive also. Depends on the place and schedules. So if I tend to "lighten up" into the back of my car whenever possible and then load up again when I need to.
The ideal arrangement, I believe. |

It is a good day. I thought I'd lost my scrabble cards. I found them in a secret compartment in my bag |

Laptop bag. Very expensive, but extremely durable and has a pointless but funky-looking airplane belt buckle on it. In it I carry (in order of importance):
- a packet of cigarettes (L&M Blue) and lighter
- My MP3/Portable Video Player
- My mobile phone
- a notebook with jottings for the day's lesson/training session
- My digital camera
- Whatever book I happen to be reading
- Any textbooks I'm using with my class
- USB cable for MP3 player
- passport (needed for bank and corrupt policemen)
- USB memory stick
- 60GB mini-hard drive with a complete back up of everything I have on my laptop
- a couple of Chupa Chup lollipops (cherry/apple preferably)
- sweet wrappers, odd pieces of paper with cryptic numbers on them |

I always have a set of encyclopedias with me.
They offer a bit of diversion whilst waiting on a slow foursome golfing up ahead.
I don't suppose they're too heavy; but then I'd have to ask my porter to be sure. |

I'm sticky to my messenger bag that's been with me for the past 4 years. It's one tough mother. In it, I keep:
toothbrush
toothpaste
floss
Palm Zire 72
digital camera
passport
Foreign expert card
countless little papers, business cards, reciepts
spare set of keys
a backup pack of cigarettes
tic-tacs
spare lighter
iPod (sometimes)
cell phone
random junk |

I used to use a laptop bag but the strap broke. Once I get a new strap, I'll likely start using it again - in the fall session. Lately, however, I've been using a backpack, which actually distributes the weight of my laptop and books more evenly (easier on the back!). I wonder if I could possibly find a strap for my laptop with better shoulder protection. That would be nice.
What's in my bag? Laptop, textbooks, teacher's book, extra paper, ESL CDs and/or cassettes, pens, liquid paper, scissors, stapler, calculator, and most importantly, a thermos filled with coffee. |
