phuket or boracay?

This time of year? Phuket - The non-keeled outriggers they use to get you to and around Boracay are a bit hairy this time of year. Quick suggestion though: try Ko Chang - best island I know

Jan-Feb and July-Aug Boracay is increasingly catering to Koreans - so if you are trying to get away and out of Korea - you might go for Phuket at those times.

I vacationed in both Phuket and Boracay so I'll give my two cents on this one. Boracay is a small island whereas Phuket covers a larger area which includes several small islands plus the mainland. I think both areas are tremendously beautiful. However, Boracay and the mainland part of Phuket are both *filled* with tourists. You'll also have to put up with child beggars in both areas (although in Boracay it's mostly children selling peanuts and things like that). For privacy, one of the islands off the mainland of Phuket (I went to Ko Raya Noi for a few days) is your best best - a tranquil paradise. Just be careful not to eat anything that requires refrigeration as there is a generator that only operates for about six hours a day and it's 35 C there year-round (I suffered from a nasty case of food poisoning while there -yuck). The biggest advantage Boracay has, on the other hand, is that everything is in walking distance and ALL accommodations are anywhere from 20-50 steps from the water, literally. It is one small sandy paradise with lots of cute little bars, shops, and restaurants. You don't even need shoes!

I don't think you could go wrong in either place, to be honest. Enjoy! Smile

Nice comments - Boracay has been on my vacation "short-list" for a long time - may have to move it to the top of the list!

I hate wearing shoes . . . (even flip flops)

One more thing:

If you do go to Boracay and you happen to take a boat trip around the island, don't go for a swim in the deep! Several of us did that and got bitten by who knows what kind of fish/sea creatures. Painful! Stick to snorkeling close to the land...much safer. Razz
