Firstly, i dont think turkey will, in the foreseeable future - 20+ years, be admitted to the EU, esp. with the rise of fanatical islam (im not necessarily referring to Turkey there) but in general, hence, allowing a whole country of muslims to join the EU is not a likely scenario - right or wrong??!! please dont think i am being critical of muslims i am not - this is just the way things are heading with all the s... that is happening in the world today.
Secondly, as for teflers, i think if you already hold legal residency, IF an offer to join happens, then why wouldnt you be allowed to stay?! even if you are a N. American, Australian, whatever. I do however think that they will crack down on those who work illegally on tourist visas.

it is impossible for Turkey to enter the EU. Why do the Europeans want a Muslim country in their christian group? and a poor country with a population of 70 million, high rate of unemployment can give nothing to EU,so why let Turkey in the EU....
second thing, TEFLers dont have to worryif Turkey enters the EU, it will be easier for crap schools to find more teachers and there wont be a need for a visa for the ones who work with a tourist visa. Smile
do you think things will change when turkey joins the EU? how long will it take the Turks to get used to the EU laws?

Turkey has lots of problems and dont know how to solve them, like a cat jumping on anyone holding a piece of meat. We tried IMF and we were beeeeeeep beeep beeeeep and now we are forced to agree on the "Crusader Laws". There is a saying " alışmadık gtte don durmaz" " if your a*rse is not used to underwear do not insist on wearing it. " EU and its laws are like pink knickers but not for our ass Smile

There is no substance to what he says, and that's partially due to his lack of consideration for others. Master Antagonizer. When I was five years old I liked to antagonize people to see how they would react to certain things. 31 still does it.

I guess tattle tails never grow up.. Very Happy

The IMF of course is a scumbag organisation controlled by the USA that is monetarist in its philosophy but you cannot blame them for the mess that Turkey has got itself into over the last few decades. Right wing Turkish governments messed up the economy time and time again, went running to the IMF knowing that the IMF set onerous conditions which they had to meet. It is not the IMF's fault that Turkey is a mess but right wing governments like Tansu Ciller's. There was a great article some years ago by Mehmet Ali Birand that I wish I had kept, it was translated into English and it likened Turkey's relationship to the IMF to that of a compulsive gambler who blows all his money and then time and time again goes cap in hand to the bank who finally get fed up of his empty promises to change.

I joined because I wanted to. Like some other people.. referred to by fellow posters as a "loser" and other interesting adjectives that were not reported to the moderator, I did not join to antagonize people, encourage hate and discontent, or try to win the "least liked" award from this forum. That is all the explaining I will do to you or anyone else.

I haven't been sacked by ET yet but if I was I would be proud and consider it an honour.

Sackings are so rare at ET (we need the teachers) that it would be easy to work out who I am if that were the case.

Post Christian group more like.

The EU needs cheap unskilled labour and Turks could fill that gap like they have done in Germany.

I cannot imagine how EU regulations could be enforced in Turkey with the endemic corruption.
