Apparently thanks to the recent visit of the Chilean President to Australia, we have signed a working visitor agreement. New Zealand has had one with Chile for a while so it is good that we can finally catch up.

The more of this little agreements the better I say.

Well, would you like to discuss what this "working-visitor" agreement is? I'm curious!

Sorry to leave you in the lurch there Weona, I was reading other things while typing!

It's an agreement which allows citizens, usually under the age of 30 to work for a period of time , usually 1 year in the signatory countries. A one off working visa for that country.

I am currently working on one in Ireland. Australia has about 17-18 of these agreements, mainly with European states.

This will be our first agreement with a Latin American country to date.

I hope that clears it up for you! Smile

Fascinating! Thanks, mozsmith! If only Chile had the same kind of relationship with the states!

As I am an Aussie with strong links to Chile, could someone please provide the link so I can read more about this, both in Chileans coming to Oz and Aussies in Chile.

Thanks

Andy

This is the link that I was able to find, it's from the PM's website.

http://www.pm.gov.au/news/media_releases/media_Release1461.html

"The Prime Minister and the President witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Work and Holiday Visa programme which will come into effect later this year. This programme will allow young people from both countries to work and holiday in Chile or Australia for a period of 12 months."
