In two weeks my wife and I will be the inheritors of two beds, dishes, a washing machine, a vacuum cleaner, a table, some chairs, a fax machine, and a VCD player. Top that! |

When I came to Japan from Vancouver, I first had to get rid of all my stuff. My husband and I gave everything we could to our friends and family, then had a yard sale. With the proceeds of the yard sale, we paid to have the rest of the junk hauled off.
(Odd what people will buy at a yard sale, though... we had everything in the yard and a man found a broken bit of metal from my old lawnmower. He asked"what's this?" "A bit that broke off my lawnmower." I replied. "How much?" he asked. I said " uh, I don't know- fifty cents?". "Twenty-five" he countered. "Yeah, okay." I said. He looked deeply satisfied with his broken metal thingy. He kept showing it to other people at the yard sale saying "She wanted fifty cents, but I got it for 25.")
I assume we'll probably do something similar when we leave Japan. |

Sounds like Steiner and his wife are fortunate in getting all of that stuff.I am still hoping someone will leave me his Porsche(even an old Porsche).
About the best I ever FOUND was at a place where some people had lived before(I did not know who) and they had left Won 50000 folded up in a book.Well,,not exactly fantastic...but hey I did not have to worry about selling THAT. |

I got an aircon and a high definition TV from a co - worker moving to Hawaii. I in turn gave away the aircon (free) and sold the TV at about 1/5th what I could have asked. Actually, when I left Japan, I sold or gave away all the furnishings in my very fully furnished apartment for a song. This is normal in Japan, though - we call this "sayonara sales." Several years before, I also bought most of my stuff for a song - although I had to rent a truck to get it all to my apt.
My uni here gave me a new phone line for free internet use (yay!) They aslo gave me a microwave oven (okay, it's for the apartment but I get to use it for another year.) This is really interesting as there is no food available that requires a microwave out here. |
