In my most recent interview in Wuhan. I made a stupid choice of passing on information to a director at a big established language centre, all my past and present employment. When I declined the offer I was almost held hostage to working for this centre as he made threats to diceredit my name within companys I worked for and even went as far as saying he would call the police to alert them of extra work I am involved in.
My thoughts are if you are in doubt about any school and or language centre you should not offer information that can hurt you for example present employers and maybe future longterm employers. So that you cant be a teacher hurt via being held hostage and forced employment as I.
And for no moment should you feel that big language centres give concerns towards this form of employment abuse. When in doubt walk out ............ |

Have you NOT learned yet? Forget altruism; China epitomizes Darwinian natural selection in reverse; NEVER tell ANY Chinese person ANYTHING you don't have to. |

Well, actually, following Sperber and Wilson's influential Relevance Theory (drawing widely on pragmatic and spech act theory) people do just that, namely, offer to share information that they don't need to in order to increase their relative 'rank' in the germane discourse. |

Of course! Sperber and Wilson's influential Relevance Theory! How could I have been so stupid. THIS explains your god-like presence on our humble forum. We are honored, Doctor.
But just one question: What is "spech act theory"? I couldn't find it in my CELTA notes, and I attended most of the classes.
What does it mean exactly, with examples where possible?
Thanx to DRAGON |

AKA, I think Bertrand means the theory advanced by Dr. Johann SPECH, seminal 19th century Austrian psycholinguist, which opines that certain types of emotionally unstable individuals crave recognition for largely meaningless accomplishments.
His work is dealt with in Advanced CELTA, a two day course you have obviously not undertaken. No wonder the good doctor is dismissive of our qualifications. |

Speaking of which, I almost got 5 posts in a row yesterday, but CS had to interfere. Can I have a cookie?

"people do just that, namely, offer to share information that they don't need to in order to increase their relative 'rank' in the germane discourse."
I am starting to think that Bertrand is just trying to wind people up. The above quote from him must be ironic. It is just what he himself is doing. Is this a clue for us to work out that he is just playing with us? If it is not, it displays the most amazing lack of self awarness I have ever come across. I mean self awarness in the sense promulgated by the great philosopher Thumper's mummy in Bambi. She said, "If you ain't got nothing nice to say, don't say nothing at all" I paraphrase here because I do not want to be in breech of Disney copyright.
As for a cookie Gray000, shouldn't the glory of almost five posts in a row be good enough? It is not the winning that matters, it is the taking part.
As a word of advice, I have found that many short posts in quick succession should do the trick.
