It was black. My first thought was TARRANTULA......... POISONESS..... IT'S GOT FANGS THE SIZE OF.........big fans.
Actually it reminds me of a time on holiday in Sri Lanka a few years ago. I came out of the beach hut and there was a lizard like thing about a metre long. we both froze for a few seconds, then ran off in opposite directions. I don't know if it or I was more scared.

looks like i might be going to nemrut. any advice? getting to that area seems a bit problematic, actually, since the big bus companies don't go there and the flights that do go around there are booked. any suggestions?

I got to Nemrut with a starting point in Urfa. I and 4 others hired a minibus and driver, and left very early in the morning. We got to the summit via adiayaman, khata, khata kalesi, swim in the Euphrateus,GAP,Arsamenia, karakus, and aroman bridge i forget the name of. All of these places are of some interest. If you ask at the IPek Palas hotel( in the centre of Urfa) they can organise it for you.
You arrive at the summit in time for sunset. Oh yeah they sell beer at the canteen on the top Very Happy A long tiring day, but well worth it.
